Started by the Farmer family (from Rockford) back in 1984, Wind Waves and Wheels (W3) was an attempt to bring the Florida surf lifestyle to Michigan. Located in the heart of Rockford, W3 grew quickly as we provided many clothing styles that you could not find anywhere else in Michigan including Billabong, Quiksilver, Stussy, OP and Gotcha. We naturally branched into hardgoods and started to carry surfboards, skateboards, windsurfers and eventually snowboards.

We had a outdoor skatepark located next to our building and hosted many pros that came to skate the “superstructure”………….our famous half pipe that was 12 feet tall. Tony Hawk, Tony Magnussen, Steve Caballero, Rob Roskopp, Danny Way, Ron Allen and Jeff Phillips were just some of the big names that came to Rockford to perform.

As the sport of snowboarding started to grow, we poured our energy into making W3 the best snowboard shop in the Midwest. Just as we do today, we stocked all the best brands, hired great help, provided the best service, and of course, became avid snowboarders ourselves.

Sometime around 1992 the economy was tough and we almost went out of business. We made a tough decision to move out of Rockford and get closer to the stronger retail area of town………..28th street was to expensive, but we found a nice location on 29th street in Kentwood. Fortunately, the sport of snowboarding really started to take off and was accepted at more and more ski resorts. W3 truly found its niche with snowboarding and we continue to work very hard to be the best snowboard shop around.

Our staff is dedicated, knowledgeable, and we snowboard every chance we get. Our 12 person staff represents over 80 years of riding experience…………in other words, we know what we are doing and promise to put you on the right product!!

W3 continues to be locally owned and our owners actually get their hands dirty and work on the store floor!! Whether its snowboards, skateboards, longboards, wakeboards, skimboards, clothing, footwear or sunglasses, we will do our best to earn your business.
